Thornbury locals who can’t wait to share our love of decadent cheeses and hand picked wines. The Thornbury Fromagerie was born out of a passion for the finer things in life and a strong desire to never have to leave our fabulous neighbourhood! 

We’ve joined forces with industry experts, sommelier Christian Maier and cheesemonger Matt Steele to create the cheese and wine bar experience Thornbury and the surrounding suburbs of Northcote, Fairfield and Preston was missing.

Sweet dreams are made of cheese and we are proud to bring this dream project to life for you to enjoy.

Our Sommelier Christian Maier was born in Alsace, France and classically schooled in Hospitality.

He has an armory of knowledge, expertise, accolades and awards drawn from three decades of wine service in France, Germany, Britain, Thailand and Australia.

Christian has hand selected The Thornbury Fromage beverage list to feature a balance of local and international products designed to compliment our cheese menu.

Having a passion for wine and an unquenchable thirst for wine knowledge, Christian has spent many years in Michelin-starred restaurants in France and London UK. Upon arrival in Australia he further developed his skills by focusing on oenology and was appointed to the position of Sommelier at Hotel Sofitel Melbourne in 1994 subsequently being awarded Best Hotel wine list in 1997. In 2000 the Age Good Food Guide handed Christian the inaugural award for Service Excellence.
